History of Castle Hernen
Did you know that Castle Hernen is officially not a castle but a moated castle? The building from the 14th century has unique covered passageways and is situated in beautiful surroundings. Around the castle you'll find woods, lawns, river courses and its own windmill; the Hernense Molen. Noble families used to live at the castle. The last owner was Mrs. A.M. Metelerkamp van Bronkhorstden Tex. Her daughter donated the castle and the garden in 1940 to Stichting Vrienden der Geldersche Kasteelen. In the 1960s, the TV series Floris was recorded here, in which Rutger Hauer played the leading role.
